Tamil civil society formalises TCSF organisation[ TamilNet ][ Dec 09 19:12 GMT ]

A loosely organised network of Tamil Civil Society Activists from the North-East of Sri Lanka who had been functioning for the past five years under the leadership of the Mannaar Bishop have now formally constituted themselves as an organization – the Tamil Civil Society Forum (TCSF). A policy document setting out the aims, objectives and core beliefs of the organisation and a constitution were adopted by more than 60 Tamil Civil Society Activists who took part in the Annual General Meeting of the forum held in mid-November 2014. Vaiko calls on European Union, bats for referendum in Sri Lanka[ PTI ][ Dec 09 14:38 GMT ]

MDMK General Secretary Vaiko on Tuesday called on European Union Ambassador Joao Cravinho and other representatives of the EU member countries here and sought their support for the “need for a referendum” among Tamils in Sri Lanka.”The help and contribution of European Union countries in holding a referendum on the Tamils issue in Sri Lanka is very essential,” he said. He also discussed the national and Tamil Nadu political scenario besides commercial and cultural links between EU member countries and India. Tamil issues remain unaddressed in Sri Lanka election: TNA[ PTI ][ Dec 09 19:11 GMT ]

“Tamils are facing various issues. There are hundreds of people who still can’t go back to their own lands because Army is occupying them”, Suresh Premachandran, a senior member of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said. “There are hundreds of political prisoners. Even after 5 years (of the end of war), people are still in camps”.Premachandran said they await answers from contestants. “We are waiting for answers. If given the chance, we will talk to them,” the TNA leader added. He further said the opposition’s utterances were equally worrying them (tamils). [ full story |
